Welcome, Ms.
Thompson, to Love Romances and More and to our interview. The readers
and I, look forward to this talk about your book, and getting to know
you on a more personal level.
Let us start off by telling you a little about this author, Vicki
Lewis Thompson, with a wonderful quote and a short blurb of her book,
OVER HEXED.
” OVER HEXED is one do-not-miss read. Ms. Thompson has penned a
snappy and sexy novel that this reviewer found witty beyond words. In a
one word summation: Fantastic!”
Banished. Until their unconventional techniques landed them in hot
water, Dorcas and Ambrose were the matchmaking sex therapists for
lovelorn witches and wizards. The Grand High Wizard has exiled them to
the very conventional and unmagical town of Big Knob, Indiana, Pop. 947.
But that doesn’t mean they’ve given up matchmaking…
Now they’re doing it
for mere mortals—although all agree: Sean Madigan is something of a god.
Because he’s tired of being the town sex object, Dorcas and Ambrose
strip him of his appeal and then introduce him to his destiny, Maggie
Grady. This time winning a girl’s heart won’t be so easy for Sean. It
means rediscovering the charms buried beneath a gorgeous surface.

Ms Thompson, if you
would be so kind as to tell the readers a little about yourself and what
you do when you are not busy writing?
The sound you
hear is me, hysterically laughing. Lately the pace has been nonstop, so
I confess I haven’t been doing much else besides writing, but I love to
write! Obviously, I love reading, and reading on the beach would be my
all-time getaway. I also love long walks, and I’ve recently developed a
passion for Disneyland, specifically Space Mountain. I also love
playing Scrabble. How’s that for geeking out?
Could you tell the
readers how you came up with the premise for
OVER HEXED?
The matchmaking
witch and wizard sort of popped into my head like . . . magic. But
having them change a sexy guy into a nerd so he could find true love –
that was inspired by my nerd-to-hero stories and wondering what would
happen if you reversed the scenario.
Ms.
Thompson, what inspired you to write?
When I was a
kid we went to the beach every summer and I remember finding a seagull
feather and trying to make it into a quill pen. It didn’t work very
well, but the whole concept of writing fascinated me, even down to the
ink.
Do you have
a favorite scene from OVER HEXED?
Uh, huh. It’s
the scene when my hero Sean realizes that somehow, someway, he’s lost
his manly good looks. Even his male equipment seems smaller. It was a
fun moment.
What was the hardest scene to develop in OVER HEXED?
The scene that
introduces George the dragon was a challenge because I had to get clear
in my mind what his personality would be. When I finally decided he had
ADD, his character fell into place. I’ve had a terrific time with
George.
Do you have a
special formulation or technique when you write?
I do my best to
shut out the real world and enter the world of my characters. I’m not
always successful, but when I’m totally immersed in the story, the
writing is fun. Sometimes music helps, especially if I’ve chosen
certain CDs to go with the story.
Ms. Thompson, what
is the nicest thing another author has said about you?
I want to be
like you when I grow up. J
Ms. Thompson, where in the world does your wonderful and witty sense
of humor come from? Are you like this in person?
I’m not nearly
as funny in person! There’s no edit function in real life. Wish there
were. My sense of humor comes from my parents, who both loved to laugh.
They say everyone
has a dream, what is yours?
I have a quote on
my bulletin board – “Dream no little dreams, for they contain no
magic.” I believe that. So I dream of becoming so successful that I
can offer grants to struggling romance writers. I’m also an animal
lover, and I would be thrilled if I could open a no-kill pet shelter,
but I’d need someone else to run it because writing is still my greatest
passion.
How much
background research went into OVER HEXED?
I’m delving
into the world of magic constantly and learning as I go. I have books
on Wicca and on magic in general. Fortunately with paranormal you can
make up some of your own rules as long as you are consistent. I love
having that kind of freedom to create whatever suits my fancy.
Ms. Thompson, do you have any special interests or causes you would
like to share with the readers?
Homeless pets
are a huge issue for me. Through spay and neuter programs, we have the
power to end the overpopulation problem so that we don’t have to put
down healthy animals, and I would like to see us evolve to the point
where there are no more homeless pets.
Ms. Thompson, what are your views in regards to sex in the romance
field today?
I’m fascinated
with the changes that have taken place in twenty-five years. When I
wrote my first Harlequin Temptation, that line was on the cutting edge
in sexual content. Then came Harlequin Blaze and Kensington’s Brava
line. Now even they seem tame compared to some of the erotic romance
being published. Obviously the reading public is eager for more
explicit sex, but the flip side is that inspirational romance has never
been more popular. I don’t judge, just observe, and I find the
evolution extremely intriguing.
You give the
characters in OVER HEXED a realistic and personal feel to them. Do you
draw from a person you have known?
I try not to
copy any single person I’ve known, because that leads to unpleasant
things like lawsuits. The characters are composites and become their
own person. That said, some of my characters strongly resemble people
I’ve known, and the funny thing is, they never recognize themselves.
Would you
like to tell the readers about any new or upcoming releases, Ms
Thompson?
You bet!
Over Hexed is the first in a series about Big Knob. The second
book, Wild & Hexy, comes out in June of ’08, and the third book,
Casual Hex, will be published in February of ’09.

Ms Thompson, do you have any advice for aspiring authors?
Even if you
have no contract and no editor breathing down your neck, set your own
personal deadlines and keep them. Self-discipline is one of the
critical parts of being a writer. It could even be *the* most critical
part. It’s okay to bribe yourself it that’s what it takes to make your
deadline. Chocolate works, so stock up.
I would like to thank you Ms.
Thompson, for sharing your talent and time with the readers of Love
Romances and More. I truly enjoyed reading OVER HEXED and hope to read
more from you soon!
Thank you for inviting me! Your
questions were great!
